Y1 had a fabulous day on Tuesday, when they went off to the Safari Park as part of their Paws, Claws and Whiskers topic.

They had an excellent view of the beasts from their high position in the coach and then visited the dinosaur enclosure, which they absolutely loved!

They are full of conversation and ideas about the King Lion with its huge mane, the gazelles with long, curved horns and the big, round belly of the rhinoceros.  The girls want to explain about how they all screamed in the volcano, when the lava erupted, even though it was “only pretend!”  They talk excitedly about how big the dinosaurs are, but are quick to state that they know that the dinosaurs are robots not real, because dinosaurs lived a long time ago.

They enjoyed learning new facts about how high sea lions can leap and how geysers force water up into the air and they were excited about being really close to ferrets and chinchillas

We are looking forward to helping them with their research and building their recounts of the day, which will now be full of fabulous vocabulary and facts.
