St James Houses

At St James C of E Primary School, our House System plays an important role in promoting positive behaviour, developing leadership and strengthening our sense of community as the Family of St James.
All pupils and staff in Key Stage 2 belong to one of six houses, each named after a colour and linked to a Christian value:
- Red – Hope
- Blue – Harmony
- Yellow – Wisdom
- Orange – Dignity
- Purple – Community
- Green – Kindness
Where possible, siblings are placed in the same house, helping to foster supportive relationships across year groups and further strengthening our family ethos.
The House System provides valuable opportunities for pupil leadership. Year 6 pupils may nominate themselves to become House Captains or Vice-Captains, presenting their ideas to their house before taking part in a democratic vote.
Houses meet regularly for collective worship, enabling pupils to explore school themes in greater depth through reflection, discussion and shared experiences. These gatherings support pupils' spiritual development and encourage them to consider how they can live out our vision and values in their daily lives.
Through the House System, pupils develop confidence, responsibility, resilience and teamwork while celebrating one another's achievements and contributing positively to the wider school community.
Each week, our six houses compete to earn house points through demonstrating our school values, positive behaviour, excellent attendance and a commitment to learning. House points are celebrated and shared weekly, encouraging teamwork, determination and a sense of belonging, with the winning house receiving the St James House Cup at the end of each week. Throughout the year, pupils work together to help their house succeed, building pride in their achievements and supporting one another along the way. At the end of the academic year, the house with the highest total is crowned St James House Champion and rewarded with a special trip to celebrate their success.
