Music

Our music curriculum at St James ensures children sing, compose, listen and perform. We ensure this by following the music express scheme of work as well as the Junior Jam curriculum, which is taught during PPA. By following Music Express and Junior Jam, our curriculum offers a broad, deep, meaningful and practical experience for musically rich teaching and learning which is in line with the National Curriculum. Our music curriculum also mirrors and covers the intention of the new non-statutory Model Music Curriculum.  Our music curriculum engages and inspires our children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians.  Through music, we want our children to increase their self-confidence and creativity. Therefore, the carefully planned curriculum builds on previous learning with appropriate progression to ensure the children’s learning is developed, enriched and reinforced. The children are exposed to many types of music giving them a broad and balanced view of the music world.  At St James, we want our music curriculum to inspire children to become musicians but also give them another way to express their values and emotions.
